Third grade is an exciting year! In third grade students will enhance their reading comprehension skills, math problem solving skills, division, begin to master multiplication facts and much more! Through hands-on science activities students will develop knowledge about the human body, rocks and minerals, and the water cycle. We also take several exciting field trips in third grade including Ingram’s Pond, the Baltimore Aquarium, and the Read House.

Our third grade reading curriculum, MacMillian-Mcgraw Hill Treasures encompasses all reading skills including phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension. It also incorporates instruction in spelling, grammar and writing skills. Through the Treasures curriculum our students have the opportunity to learn and build background knowledge on a range of topics such as, the solar system, habitats, beach preservation, and cultural diversity.

Our Math Trailblazers program is designed to help students know and apply basic math skills, solve problems using many different strategies, effectively communicate solutions to problems and their methods for solving them, and work independently as well as, in small groups to solve problems. In third grade students will participate in a variety of hands-on activities to learn and perfect their skills in graphing, addition and subtraction with regrouping, perimeter and area, multiplication and division, and even fractions.

We look forward to a great year with your child!
